Important information regarding pick up during winter months (October 15 until April 15)
Germany passed a ruling that requires drivers to properly equip their vehicles according to inclement weather conditions. During winter months, cars must be equipped with All Season tires (also called 'M+S tires'). It is the responsibility of the owner/driver to equip their vehicle appropriately for the prevailing conditions. The following website outlines a snow tire rental option and includes pricing and details of booking the tire rental in Germany. Please be advised that all cars must return to Munich to have the original BMW tires put back on the car before shipment to the U.S. www.edwintertires.com. Customers have the option to leave their vehicle at BMW Welt for shipment to the U.S. if they prefer not to drive. There will be a fee of 60 Euro (cash), payable to the BMW Welt.

Is there a minimum number of miles which must be driven before dropping the car off at a Harms drop-off location?
No, the car can be driven throughout your journey or it can be driven directly to the Harms drop-off in Munich. If you plan on departing the Welt without driving your BMW, for €60 you can have a BMW representative drop off your BMW to the shipping company. You need to inform the Welt upon your arrival that you do not plan on driving your BMW, pay in cash, and the rest is taken care of.
If I drive over the 1200 mile break-in period on my M BMW, what happens with the scheduled break-in service?
If you plan on driving your M BMW 1,200 miles or more while you are in Europe, you can service your BMW for the initial break-in service at an authorized BMW Center. You will be required to pay for the service in Europe. Keep the receipt. You will be reimbursed. Upon your return, simply take the receipt to a BMW Center and file a warranty claim in the service department. BMW NA will reimburse you for the expense. If your M BMW is being shipped to the Performance Center they can conduct the service under the US warranty for free. The vehicle must have 1200 miles or more on the odometer for the service to be performed.
Am I going to be legally registered in Europe or the United States?
Your automobile will be registered and delivered with German tourist license plates. The plates are valid for the period indicated on the registration documents and license plates. Customs regulations restrict the use of tourist license plates for private purposes. The customer is responsible for complying with any local regulations and taxes that may apply. Registration cannot be renewed and cannot be extended once initiated. Tourist plates are valid only in Europe. When the car is shipped to the U.S., you must arrange to register your vehicle in your home state and pay state sales tax.
When is my first payment due?
The first payment for financing contracts is scheduled sixty (60) days from the date on your BMW FS contract. If you are leasing, the first payment is collected upfront, and the second payment is covered by BMW. BMW FS increases the money factor by .0003 for Euro Delivery.
If I have a navigation system in my car, can I purchase a DVD for Europe?
If you have ordered the Navigation System on your new BMW, Europe maps will be automatically loaded to your hard-drive based Navigation before you pick up your car at the BMW Welt and a navigation disk is not necessary. Upon return to the USA, the maps are updated to the United States and Canadian maps.
I'd like to keep the European plates, as a souvenir. Is this possible?
Both plates must remain on vehicles being dropped off, effective July 1, 2009. There is no guarantee that the rear plate will be on the car once it arrives in the U.S. New European Customs Regulations require both license plates to remain on the vehicle until it reaches the U.S. Customers that want to keep the license plates as souvenir will have to wait until the vehicle arrives the dealership. Because the front license plate is only taped to the bumper and not drilled (with the exception of the 7 Series and X3), we cannot provide any guarantee that both license plates will be on the vehicle once it arrives.
A note about the warning triangle and first aid kit.
If you would like to keep these items you have to remove them from your BMW and take them with you. Repeat, if you want to keep these items, please take them with you. Otherwise the port authorities remove them and they will not be in your vehicle when you receive it in the US
What identification do I need to bring?
Upon arrival at the Delivery Center, you must present a passport and valid driver's license for identification.
What is the Road-Use Tax?
Your European Delivery package includes road tax depending on the insurance time frame see below.
What is the Registration and Insurance policy?
BMW European Delivery provides 14 days of premium insurance and tourist registration with no additional cost to you. However, should you decide to extend this, additional coverage is available for purchase in 30-day increments only. Insurance beyond the 14 days and up to five months is available for an additional premium. For example, for 45 days coverage, you would order two months of insurance, which is the actual coverage period, not one month plus 14 days. This coverage must extend to your drop-off date and can be arranged through your local BMW Center and must be done in advance to your pick up date. The European Delivery department must be notified a minimum of 2 weeks prior to pick up in Munich in the event of an insurance change. The change of insurance cannot be done upon arrival in Munich.

A valid U.S. driver's license is sufficient to drive a car in Europe. Drivers must be at least 18 years old. If you plan to travel in Austria, you must have a valid International Driver's License, which can be purchased through the American Automobile Association (AAA) closest to you.

Your BMW's Bluetooth hands-free calling feature will be available, if your cell phone is compatible with your system. Please be aware that GSM is the European standard; many US handsets from AT&T, T-Mobile and others are both compatible with your BMW and the European wireless carriers. Please ensure your wireless carrier's service agreement allows for international calling if you wish to make mobile calls.
Before you leave for Munich, please provide me with your BMW Assist primary and secondary subscriber names and addresses, as well as emergency contact information, so that a BMW Assist subscriber agreement can be prepared and available for your signature upon your return and pick up of your new BMW.
Do I need an iPod USB cable prior to my departure?
No. The black 'Y' cable that was once required, is no longer produced. You only need the white cable that came with your Apple device. Connect it to the USB port and you're set!
